ENGINE REGISTRATION

According to the Federal Boat Safety Act of 1971, all marine engines must be registered.  The law has been put into place to ensure that a manufacturer can contact the owner in case there are safety defects or other issues that must be corrected.

WHO REGISTERS THE ENGINE?
Contrary to common belief, the engine is not automatically registered when the boat is registered. It is the responsibility of the DEALER WHO SELLS THE BOAT to REGISTER THE ENGINE WITH INDMAR.

If the engine is not registered in Indmar's system, the engine is not eligible for warranty repairs.

HOW TO REGISTER AN INDMAR MARINE ENGINE?

Registration of an Indmar engine is done on-line on the Indmar Dealer Portal. You can access the Indmar Dealer Portal by clicking on the Dealer Login button on the consumer website  www.indmar.com or you can access the Indmar Dealer Portal directly at https://dealers.indmar.com

Once you have logged in to the dealer portal, you will be able to register the engine by going to the main menu, then go to ACCOUNT or click the person icon found on the top right of any page.  In the MY Account Menu shown on the left, look to the bottom of the menu for ENGINE REGISTRATION.

Indmar’s policy on the registration of new (within 12 months of date of manufacture) and non current (more than 12 months of date of manufacture) is listed below. You can print a copy of the policy as well as the required checklists by clicking on the Home tab on the Indmar Dealer Portal and selecting the Engine Registration folder from within the Dealer Administrative Information folder and downloading the appropriate files.

Warranty Registration Policy

A majority of the engine packages that Indmar Products manufactures are installed in boats that are delivered to customers in a very short time frame. Occasionally, boats remain in boat manufacturer or dealer inventories for extended periods of time before a sale is made.

Indmar Products has a concern for those products that have remained in a dealer or boat manufacturer inventory for a significant amount of time. Although the engine is still technically “new”, certain components of the engine will have degraded during that time to a point that they may not be usable.  Components such as rubber fuel lines,  drive belts, cooling and exhaust hoses, sea pump impellers, seals, spark plug wires and gaskets may show signs of degradation. Other components such as fuel pumps, fuel pressure regulators, fuel rails and fuel injectors can become inoperable from degraded fuel. Failure of these components can lead to improper engine operation or in extreme cases, engine failure.

Note: The warranty clock automatically starts ticking three years past the engine’s manufacturing date. The remaining warranty is pro-rated as follows:

  • More than 3 years but less than 4 years past manufacturing date: 2 year remaining warranty.
  • More than 4 years but less than 5 years past manufacturing date: 1 year remaining warranty.
  • More than 5 years past manufacturing date: not eligible for warranty.

In order to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction,
Indmar will enforce the following policy:

Diacom Recording Procedure:

  1. With the boat in the water, connect the Diacom cable to the engine. Turn the key switch on and start Diacom recording. After approximately 30 seconds:
  2. Start the engine and let it idle in neutral. Once the engine has reached 140 degrees F:
  3. Shift into forward gear and increase the engine to 1000 RPM and hold it there for 30 seconds.
  4. Increase the RPM to 2000 for 30 seconds. Continue increasing the RPM in 1000 RPM increments for 30 seconds at each RPM till you reach wide open throttle.
  5. Return the RPM to idle and continue recording for 30 seconds.
  6. Stop recording and save the recording using the engine serial number as the file name. For example, 654321.rec. Note: The file name must end with .rec for us to be able to read.
  7. Retain this recording in a place where it can be retrieved and send a copy  to Indmar along with the engine checklist.
